What is Self-Directed Learning?

Human beings are born ready to learn. No one teaches babies to talk or toddlers to walk. It turns out we don’t need to force children to read, write, or do arithmetic either. At FVFL, children have the freedom to pursue interests and explore ideas at their own pace. We believe that young people who are in control of their own lives will choose to learn the skills they need in their own time. But more importantly, they will learn how to set and achieve their own goals, be accountable for their actions, and be productive members of a community.
